Join the Woodland Cultural Centre for a virtual tour of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School
The former Mohawk Institute Residential School (Mush Hole) was the longest operating residential school in Canada. A building created to destroy Indigenous
identity & heritage is now the home of the Woodland Cultural Centre, a site dedicated to the revitalization of Haudenosaunee cultures & languages.
The virtual tour of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School, gives the history of the school from when it opened in 1831, until it closed in 1970. Participants will see different rooms in the school, from the meeting room, the girls’ and boys’ dorms, the third floor, cafeteria, and various rooms in the basement. After the presentation participants will have the opportunity to ask questions or share comments with the Cultural Interpreter.
The film portion is rated PG-13, parents strongly cautioned. Some material may not be suited for children under age 13
