Speaker Series: All About Children's Mental Health

This presentation will cover children’s brain development and emotional regulation, mood and behaviour, and a generalized overview of navigating support for children and families.
Are you a parent or caregiver who is feeling stuck when your child is expressing big emotions? Are you feeling unsure about why your child might be having meltdowns, ‘acting out’, or displaying new behaviours? Are you a parent or a caregiver who is looking to learn more about how to navigate the upcoming summer transition or support for your child? This free presentation will cover brief information (psychoeducation) regarding children’s brain development and emotional regulation, mood and behaviour, and a generalized overview of navigating support for children and families. The goal of this 1-hour presentation for parents and caregivers to learn about children’s mental health in order to better support their children’s needs. Topics covered will include:
· Defining children’s mental health
· Common mental health concerns that ‘pop up’ over the summer months
· An overview of brain development
· An overview of behaviour and emotional regulation (specific to change and transition over the summer break)
· General recommendations
· General resources and how to access formal support
· Time for Q&A

About the Presenter:
Anushka is a Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW) in Ontario who is passionate about Child and Adolescent Mental Health. She brings with her 15 years of experience working with individuals in a variety of settings (including youth recreational programming, community development and programming, the Ontario shelter system, Community Mental Health- Child and Adult).
She currently works as a Social Worker who provides psychotherapy for children and adults through her private practice in Bradford and Newmarket. Her areas of work include supporting individuals who are experiencing concerns with mood and behaviour, grief and loss, and childhood/ attachment-based trauma (parent wounds, generational trauma, etc). She enjoys incorporating art, play, and a sense of humor into her therapy space, and firmly believes in the power of connection through the therapeutic relationship.
